Manse Farm is part of the family farm which the Rennie family have been farming for four generations. The farm is situated on the north east coast of Scotland, around 1 mile from the coast and small harbour village of Rosehearty. Our location is so close to the sea means that we are protected from harsh frosts and so have a longer growing season than is found inland.
The main activity is growing raspberries for supermarkets. Our picking season lasts from around May to October or November, depending upon the weather. We also grow strawberries and have a herd of Aberdeen Angus cows. Barley and oats are grown for feeding to the cows supplemented by hay produced in the summer.
As farmers, we are also guardians of the countryside and work closely with the RSPB to maintain the population of corn buntings that also live on the farm. We have one of the largest populations of this bird in the UK and leave a number of barley and oat field unharvested each year to provide shelter for their nests which they make on the ground.
